Gearbox Selection for Automatic Coil Winding Machines
A practical guide to matching a gearbox and motor to automatic coil winding equipment, with attention to winding speed, torque, acceleration and installation.
Application Description
Drive requirements for coil winding
Automatic winding machines wind wire onto a bobbin or core to produce coils. The drive must suit the required winding speed and the changing load throughout the cycle. Wire tension is controlled by the complete winding and tensioning system, not by the gearbox alone.
Selection considerations
- Define the winding speed range, direction of rotation and operating cycle.
- Determine the torque at the gearbox output, including acceleration, friction and the maximum loaded bobbin. Check both continuous and peak duty.
- Check acceleration and deceleration time, positioning requirements and the allowable backlash of the complete mechanism.
- Choose an inline or right-angle arrangement to suit the space and shaft layout. Check the gearbox output bearing loads and any external support for the spindle.
- Match the motor shaft diameter, pilot, mounting pattern and shaft length to the input drawing. Confirm the gearbox ratio and motor speed together.
Information to send for selection
Send the wire material and diameter, bobbin dimensions and maximum mass, target speed, cycle time, motor details, available installation space and a sketch of the transmission. ANDANTEX can review the requirements and provide a suitable gearbox and interface drawing.
