A custom planetary gearbox enquiry should distinguish a change to the motor or machine connection from a new internal gear design. Start with the required speed, torque and duty cycle, select a suitable gearbox family, then identify the dimensions that the standard product cannot meet. This makes the engineering review more precise and avoids specifying a special gearbox when an approved interface modification may be enough.
Define what needs to be customized
ANDANTEX's OEM cooperation service covers custom labeling, packaging and input or output interface modifications. Interface feasibility and final dimensions are reviewed against your drawings before order confirmation. A request for different gears, materials, sealing or internal performance needs a separate feasibility assessment; it is not automatically included in an interface change.
| Request | Information to provide | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Motor-side adaptation | Complete motor model and dimensioned drawing | Pilot fit, shaft engagement, bolt pattern and coupling access |
| Machine-side adaptation | Mating shaft, flange or hub drawing | Connection fit, retention, external loads and assembly clearance |
| Brand identification | Approved label artwork and required identifiers | Label content, location and version |
| Packaging | Protection, handling and branding requirements | Pack configuration and agreed artwork |
Prepare the operating specification first
State the required output speed and working torque, then describe acceleration, deceleration, dwell and reversal. List recurring peak torque separately from an emergency-stop event. Include the number of cycles per minute, hours per day, ambient temperature and installation orientation. A gearbox that fits the motor mechanically still needs a load and thermal review.
For an initial family comparison, use the planetary gearbox selection guide. Compare PLF square-flange spur gearboxes and PAG helical planetary gearboxes using the requirements of the axis, rather than choosing a family solely because its external dimensions look similar.
Send drawings that show the complete connection
- Input: motor shaft diameter, usable shaft length, key or flat where applicable, locating pilot, mounting-hole pattern and the distance from the mounting face to relevant shoulders.
- Output: shaft or bore dimensions, flange register, fasteners, mating component and the required locating and retention method.
- External loads: radial and axial forces, their direction and the distance from the gearbox reference face to the load application point.
- Assembly: access for tightening, allowable envelope, nearby components and any additional bearing supports.
The motor interface dimensions checklist helps separate shaft fit from flange fit. A shared motor power rating or nominal flange size does not prove that two motor drawings are interchangeable.
Example: adapting a packaging axis
Suppose a packaging machine needs the same output motion after a servo motor change, but the replacement motor has a different pilot and shaft length. Supply both motor drawings, the current gearbox identification and the machine cycle. Ask whether an input interface modification is feasible and whether it changes the overall length, coupling arrangement or permitted operating conditions. This is an illustrative review workflow, not a confirmed configuration or customer case.
Agree an approval and acceptance package
Before an order, request a controlled drawing showing the model, ratio, interface dimensions, tolerances and revision. Identify which operating ratings apply to the proposed configuration. Agree how the sample will be checked on the machine and which changes require a new approval. If a dimension is critical, show its datum and acceptance tolerance instead of relying on a picture.
Quantity, customization cost and lead time depend on the project and should be confirmed in the quotation. Send the intended first-order quantity, expected repeat demand and required delivery date; do not assume that a standard-product schedule applies to a modified interface.
Frequently asked questions
Can a custom interface increase the gearbox torque rating?
Not by itself. A modified connection must be reviewed for the selected gearbox and load. Any claimed change in torque, speed or bearing capacity needs explicit engineering confirmation.
Can a competitor part number define a replacement?
It can help identify the starting point, but the replacement still needs a drawing, ratio, performance and duty-cycle comparison. Similar frame names do not establish interchangeability.
Request an OEM gearbox review with the motor drawing, output connection, motion cycle, quantity and proposed changes.
