Right-Angle Planetary Gearboxes for Servo Applications

Compare PVEA, PVFA, PAMG and PVMG right-angle planetary gearboxes. Check output layout, torque, ratio and motor interfaces for your servo application.

A right-angle planetary gearbox combines a planetary reduction arrangement with a change in shaft direction. It helps position the motor around an automation axis when an inline drive would require too much installation space.

Compare ANDANTEX right-angle planetary gearbox series

Start with the output arrangement and available mounting space, then verify the torque, ratio and motor interface for the exact model.

Series Configuration Next selection step
PVEA Right-angle planetary gearbox with a round output flange Compare PVEA060, PVEA090 and PVEA120 drawings and model specifications.
PVFA Right-angle planetary gearbox with a square flange Confirm mounting dimensions, output layout and available installation space.
PAMG Right-angle helical planetary gearbox Check the selected frame size, motor interface and output mounting dimensions.
PVMG Right-angle helical planetary gearbox Confirm output arrangement, torque, reduction ratio and motor compatibility.

These series links lead to model information and available engineering resources. Do not assume that every series has the same torque, backlash, efficiency or load rating.

When is a right-angle layout useful?

It can help route a motor alongside a machine frame, keep an axis within a compact enclosure, or clear adjacent tooling. Packaging, inspection, handling and other servo-driven machines may benefit when their installation layout calls for a 90-degree change in direction.

Changing the motor position does not remove the need to check mechanical loads. A pulley or pinion mounted on the output can impose radial force and an overturning moment; review those loads at the actual mounting distance.

Selection checklist

  1. Speed and ratio: define input speed and required output speed over the complete cycle.
  2. Torque: distinguish continuous running torque from acceleration peaks and emergency loads.
  3. Duty: record starts per hour, running time, reversals and ambient conditions.
  4. Precision: specify allowable backlash, stiffness and positioning error at the driven mechanism.
  5. Output loads: check radial force, axial force and overhung distance.
  6. Interfaces: verify shaft diameter, pilot, bolt pattern, flange size and shaft engagement using the drawings.

Review rated and peak torque and motor interface dimensions before finalizing a model.

Right-angle planetary versus worm gearboxes

Both can change shaft direction, but they are different transmission arrangements. Compare actual model data for efficiency, heat, backlash, torque and duty. A right-angle housing alone does not identify the internal gear type, and a worm drive should not be treated as a guaranteed holding brake.

Frequently asked questions

Can I select a gearbox from motor wattage alone?

No. Motor power is useful for initial screening, but motor speed, torque, duty cycle, load inertia and interface dimensions must also be checked.

Does a right-angle gearbox always have more backlash?

Use the specification for the exact model and ratio. Layout alone is not enough to compare backlash or positioning performance.

Where can I find drawings?

Open the relevant series above, choose the model and use its available drawing or 3D resource links. If a required interface is not listed, send the motor drawing for confirmation.
